Connect Directus to Blog Automation

Articles become items of a collection in Directus (self-hosted or Directus Cloud). You map the fields once: title, slug, text, summary, cover image, tags, SEO fields and date.

What you need for Directus

  • Directus on HTTPS.
  • A collection, e.g. "articles", with a text field for the title and a WYSIWYG or Markdown field for the text.
  • A user whose role may create and update items in that collection and files.

Step by step: connect Directus

  1. In Directus add a user under User Directory (e.g. "Blog Automation") with a role that may create and update your article collection and files.
  2. Open the user, generate a new value under Token, copy it and save the user.
  3. In Blog Automation: Websites & blogs → Connect website → Directus. Enter address and token, then click Check connection.
  4. Choose the collection and assign the fields under Field mapping. Then choose status and language and click Save.

Where do I find what in Directus?

Field in Blog AutomationWhere to find it in Directus
Directus addressThe address of your Directus installation, e.g. https://cms.your-company.com.
Static tokenUser Directory → user → "Token" field. Only valid once the user has been saved.
Address of the articles on your website (optional)A pattern like https://www.your-company.com/blog/{slug}.

What is transferred to Directus?

Article text goes as HTML into a WYSIWYG field or as Markdown into a Markdown field, cover image into a file or image field (uploaded), tags into a tags, CSV or JSON field, date into a date/time field. If the collection has a status field, Blog Automation sets published or draft.

Tips for Directus

  • Give the user only what it needs: create and update on the article collection and on directus_files.

Good to know about Directus

  • Without a status field Directus has no drafts - items are visible straight away.
  • Images inside the article text stay links; only the cover image is uploaded.
