What a good meta description does
The meta description is the short text below the title in the search results. It does not affect rankings directly, but it often decides whether someone clicks. A good one says in one or two sentences what the post delivers, names the keyword and ends with an invitation to read on.
The suggestions come from fixed sentence patterns. The generator adds or drops sentences until the length is between 120 and 155 characters. You can take any suggestion and edit it freely in the field below. The check and the preview update as you type.
Desktop and mobile
On desktop Google shows about 920 pixels of description, on mobile a little less. The preview cuts the text at roughly that point. You can see whether the key message comes first and stays visible on a phone too.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a meta description be?
Between 120 and 155 characters is a good range. Shorter texts waste space, and Google often cuts longer ones.
Does the keyword have to be in the meta description?
It does not have to be, but it should. Google shows words from the search in bold, and that draws the eye to your result.
Why does Google sometimes show a different text?
Google picks the text to match the search and sometimes uses a paragraph from the post instead. A good meta description makes it more likely that your own text appears.
