Integration

Connect Joomla to Blog Automation

Articles appear in Joomla 4 or 5 as articles - with category, intro and full-text image, tags, meta description and page title.

Tested with a real account

What you need for Joomla

  • Joomla 4 or 5 on HTTPS.
  • A user in the Super Users group (only Super Users get an API token).
  • At least one article category.

Step by step: connect Joomla

  1. In Joomla, enable the plugins "API Authentication - Web Services Joomla Token" and "User - Joomla API Token" under System → Plugins.
  2. Open Users → Manage → your Super User account, tab Joomla API Token: let it generate a token, save and copy it.
  3. In Blog Automation: Websites & blogs → Connect website → Joomla. Paste address and token, then click Check connection.
  4. Choose the default category, status and language, then click Save blog.

Where do I find what in Joomla?

Field in Blog AutomationWhere to find it in Joomla
Address of the Joomla websiteThe site’s home address including https://, without /administrator.
Joomla API tokenUser profile → "Joomla API Token" tab. Only appears after the profile has been saved.

What is transferred to Joomla?

Title → title, slug → alias (a taken alias gets a suffix), article text → article text, cover image → intro and full-text image (folder images/blog-automation), tags → tags (missing ones are created), meta description → meta description, SEO title → browser page title, category → Joomla category of the same name, otherwise the default category.

Tips for Joomla

  • If an article’s category has exactly the same name as a Joomla category, it goes there instead of the default category.

Good to know about Joomla

  • The token must belong to a Super User - that is a Joomla rule.
  • Joomla 4 has not yet been tested against a real installation (Joomla 5 has).

Frequently asked questions about Joomla

Check the token in the user profile and that both plugins are enabled. A new token only becomes valid after saving.

"No Joomla API was found at this address"

Enter the address without /administrator and check that the plugin "Web Services - Content" is enabled.

"There is no article category in Joomla"

Create a category under Content → Categories and check again.
