Connect Drupal to Blog Automation
Articles appear in Drupal 10 or 11 as content of the type "Article" - with title, text, image with alt text, tags, URL alias and summary.
What you need for Drupal
- Drupal 10 or 11 on HTTPS with the Article content type (article) and the core JSON:API module.
- Either the "Blog Automation" module (recommended) or the core module HTTP Basic Authentication plus a Drupal user.
- A Drupal user with the permissions "Article: Create new content" and "Article: Edit own content".
Step by step: connect Drupal
- In Blog Automation: Websites & blogs → Connect website → Drupal and choose "Blog Automation" module (recommended). Copy the connection key shown.
- Install the "Blog Automation" module in Drupal (Extend → Add new module).
- Open Configuration → Web services → Blog Automation, paste the key, choose the user articles are published as, and save.
- Without the module: enable the core module "HTTP Basic Authentication", select "Accept all JSON:API create, read, update, and delete operations" under Configuration → Web services → JSON:API, and enter username and password in Blog Automation.
- Enter the address and click Check connection. Then choose status, default category and language and click Save blog.
Where do I find what in Drupal?
| Field in Blog Automation | Where to find it in Drupal |
|---|---|
| Address of the Drupal website | The site’s home address including https://, e.g. https://www.your-company.com. |
| Connection key | Generated in Blog Automation (starts with bak_) and pasted into Drupal. |
| Drupal username | Without the module only: login name of the user articles are published as. |
| The user’s password | Without the module only: that user’s Drupal password. |
What is transferred to Drupal?
Title → title, slug → URL alias /<slug> (on creation only), article text → body (text format "Full HTML"), summary or meta description → body summary, cover image → "Image" field with alt text, tags → "Tags" vocabulary (missing terms are created).
Tips for Drupal
- With the module no password leaves Drupal, and JSON:API is opened for writing for Blog Automation only.
Good to know about Drupal
- If the user may not use "Full HTML", the text is saved as "Basic HTML" - Drupal then strips things such as embedded content.
- Without permission for URL aliases or the published status, Drupal uses its defaults (warning).
- Content types other than "Article" are not filled.
